Howto get started with AFRI-SAT IS-14 Ku-Band

1. minimum system requirement

These are the Minimum System Requirements to use AFRI-SAT Broadband Internet by Intelsat 14:

  • 1.2m dish (at minimum);
  • LNB (10.9 to 11.7 Ghz frequency range);
  • 2W BUC minimum;
  • 30 m of Viasat cables; and
  • Linkstar Viasat RCST (modem) S2A model only!

2. Antenna Pointing

You have to point your antenna to Intelsat 14 @ 45 degrees west using horizontal receive on your Spectrum Analyzer.

  • Frequency: 1,542.00 MHz
  • Polarity: Horizontal H
  • Transponder: T5K
  • Symbol rate: 16666666 MSps - FEC AUTO

3. Configuring modem

You need to telnet into the RCST with a cross over cable using the default IP address, and enter the following commands exactly as you see them:

(PLEASE NOTE THE NEW PARAMETER "DVB" THAT NEEDS TO BE CHECKED BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO POINT THE ANTENNA)

save -pcr 0x365
save -pop 0x011e0001

save -dvb 1  [NOTE: This will make your modem DVBS2]

After you enter the command "hw", the modem will reboot, and once it comes back on line, the sat "LED" should start blinking (providing you are locked on IntelSat 14).

4. Fill out our Pre-Commissioning form

Fill out our pre-commissioning form with your customer and equipment details as requested there.
